A quiet courtyard stay in the charming North Essex countryside
Three contemporary, ground-floor suites within restored 17th-century Grade II listed courtyard buildings — wide skies, open views, and thoughtful details that make it effortless to slow down.
Welcome to The Suites at Pannells Ash
Set within converted 17th-century Grade II-listed buildings in the Essex countryside, this is a place where the landscape leads — open views and a calm that meets you on arrival. Beyond the gate, the courtyard sits quietly at the centre, enclosed for morning coffee and early evenings outside, while the garden opens onto a seasonal wildflower meadow and the countryside beyond.
Inside, the feeling is bright, calm and intentionally simple: three spacious, ground-floor ensuite suites designed for slow starts and easy returns. Breakfast is brought to you each morning, warm and unhurried, and the details are quietly thoughtful — robes and natural toiletries, plus the simple ease of a shared guest kitchen when you’d rather keep things effortless. An optional outdoor hot tub can be booked in advance, situated in a secluded corner of the garden, with views across the seasonal flower meadow and open countryside.
Three suites. One gentle pace.
Spacious, ground-floor and ensuite, each suite is designed for comfort — fluffy towels and bathrobes, Faith in Nature toiletries, and thoughtful essentials that make settling in feel immediate, with soft light and a calm you feel from the moment you arrive.
Book one suite for a quiet escape, or reserve all three for an intimate stay together.

EXCELLENT Based on 317 reviews Posted on Alan TVerified You won't find better (we haven't). We stayed when attending a wedding at the nearby Hedingham Castle. The rooms are wonderfully appointed. Toast and pastries arrived hot from the oven for breakfast. A genuinely excellent place to stay where James's attention to detail places it a cut above the rest.Posted on GreylinVerified Perfect, highly recommended. This was perfectly located for our one night stay while we attended an event at Hedingham Castle, only 5 mins away by car. We were warmly welcomed and Beverley was very accommodating in changing the bed configuration for us. The room was spotless and spacious with a large shower room attached. The bed was really comfortable. Fresh fruit was left for us and fresh pastries brought to the room in the morning. Unfortunately the weather was awful so we couldn't use the pleasant seating area outside but it would be a lovely spot with fine views on a sunny day. Parking was easy. Overall, highly recommended!Posted on Nick WVerified Amazing Night Away. What a little gem!! Accommodation was amazing, everything catered for. High quality, spotlessly clean, everything you’d need. Hosts were fantastic and a real joy to talk to and were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We will be back!!!Posted on CouplefromEnglandVerified Perfect We spent two nights in Suite 2 and booked the hot tub. The room was so lovely and calming and the hosts were so welcoming, especially when an unexpected grandson had to join us. Breakfast was super fresh and having cooking facilities was a real bonus so we could rest and relax without having to drive anywhere. We took them up on a walk they recommended which was perfect. Highlight was enjoying the stars in the hot tub at -5 !! Thank you rPosted on Stephanie WVerified The Suites of Pannells Ash: A Must Stay for Castle Hedingham Events Our daughter got married at Hedingham Castle and our travel agent booked this quaint little B&B for our 4 nights stay. I have to say this is one of the best experiences of our three week European trip. Beverly, the owner of the Suites, was absolutely delightful as well as extremely helpful with some of our wedding snafus (e.g., located a steamer from a local friend of hers for the wedding attire since the bridal party fried our American wattage one). I also have foods I have to avoid and she made arrangements to provide me with things I could eat. The Listed restored barn is gorgeously renovated and the property has a view to across an open field, cue the wild pheasants. So if you ever find yourself in the Sudbury/Hedingham area of Essex, England this place is the go to. Accommodations nicely decorated, well maintained, and within a stones throw of the Castle.Posted on Ken MVerified Wonderful overnight stay Fabulous hosts, Bev & James and most excellent comfy accommodation. Superb ! Could never have expected anything better. Ken & LizPosted on Kevin RVerified Perfect stay Amazing 2 night stay, fantastic accommodation and hosts. It was a perfect location to stay to attend a wedding at Hedingham Castle. We booked all 3 suites, and we felt like we were the first guests to stay in them. Our hosts were very accommodating and kindly organised for us to use the hot-tub at short notice. Perfect short stay.Posted on StarsForEyesVerified Lovely place to stay Wonderfully peaceful with pretty views over the wildflower meadow. The owners were really accommodating for our additional needs. We enjoyed a very nice breakfast with homemade elements. It was also very clean. Would stay again if in the area.Posted on Robbie HarlandVerified An Absolute Gem We stayed for two nights as we had a wedding a few miles down the road. James and Beverley are splendid hosts, and I must say the photos online do not do the rooms justice. From our welcome until our farewell we were made to feel like long lost friends. The use of the large communal kitchen allowed us to chill a few beers and a bottle of wine in the fridge so we could watch the stars after we got back from dinner, cushions already laid out for us! The room itself was marvelous, from the giant bed to the "rain type" shower it was almost more comfortable than our own home. The warm pastries in the morning tasted all the better as we ate them in soft complimentary bathrobes. If we are back in the area again, or even if we just want a night away, this is where we will stay. My only criticism would be we wished we could interact wither their dog George more :pPosted on JulesVerified Wow, pure luxury. Wow! We were so lucky to be able to stay one night at this amazing accommodation. We had been camping nearby, but 'long story short' we needed a bit of luxury and that is exactly what we got. From the moment I spoke to Beverly on the phone, she was friendly, professional and arranged our stay with ease. When we arrived we were blown away by the beautiful, huge room, the king size bed, the fabulous furnishings, and the most amazing bathroom. It was just what we needed. Then Beverly provided us with a perfect breakfast. As we were leaving, we met James, who was equally as friendly. The perfect hosts. We would like to thank you both so much for being there in our time of need. I would not hesitate to recommend this fantastic, luxury bed and breakfast. Our only regret was that we only stayed one night.
